We have recently developed an analysis technique of small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) contributions in neutron transmission spectra. This technique can be extended to the nanostructural mapping using neutron transmission imaging measurements. For such practical application, the characteristics of the SANS contributions in the neutron transmission have to be investigated in detail. Therefore, we measured the neutron transmission spectrum and scattering profile of the glassy carbon used as the standard of small-angle scattering. The results confirm that the neutron transmission spectrum of the glassy carbon is mainly interpreted by the small-angle scattering contribution as well as the wide-angle scattering contribution.

The small- and wide-angle neutron scattering instrument (TAIKAN) was installed in the Materials and Life Science Experimental Facility (MLF) of J-PARC, which was designed for efficient measurement in the range from sub-nanometre to micrometre scale. Therefor, TAIKAN is used in various research fields. In order to enable measurement of smaller scattering angles, recently, the scintillation 2D detector with a high spatial resolution was installed at the behind of small-angle detector bank. In this report, we will introduce on the results of commissioning measurements with 2D detector and the research results on soft matter materials using TAIKAN.
